CHRISTIAN MEDIA GROWTH & DECLINE
George Barna's polling organization has just released a study which indicates that more people listen to Christian radio or watch Christian television than actually participate in the life of a church. However, the radio audience has shrunk in the last 13 years from 56% to 46% of the adult US population.

Christian television remains steady with 45% of the population tuning in at least once a month. About 1/3 of the population will read a Christian book during a typical month.

I'm surprised that the percentages are so high. There just are not that many quality faith-based television shows available. There does not seem to be a shortage of religious radio programming. But I'm wondering, as I've done before, if the Contemporary Christian Music movement isn't on the wane. This would explain some of the decline in that area. (I like the idea of CCM radio and occasionally still listen -- but I've grown weary of the format. Whereas classical music has been a constant in my life since my teen years. Also, I find myself listening to the Orthodox online station a lot more than the CCM stations. There's just more depth to the music.)
