Art Greco, who is the pastor of Marin Covenant Church, posted these on the Abet list this morning:
- People deserve honesty & "realness" from the pulpit, but they deserve The Bible, too.
- Service and commitment result in joy; one without the other results in weariness.
- Logical, sensible, biblical thinking is the antidote for much social insanity.
- You don't have to forsake the intellectual in order to have the spiritual. Intelligence and holiness go hand in hand.
- Excellence is not a sin.
- Cultural relevance is a biblical mandate.
- The only prerequisite for being treated with dignity is being human.
- People should be encouraged to be honest about their feelings toward God... no pretending allowed.
- Manipulation is the antithesis of pastoral care, but clerical passivity is its assassin.
- Churches should make decisions that are in God's best interest.
- It's the students' and kids' church too. HEAR THEM!
- Singles matter. Marriage isn't a requirement for wholeness.
- Only a foolish pastor allows a person's "church influence" to exceed that person's "spiritual depth."
- When pastors "sell out" to the powerful, they SELL the rest of the people.
- Two excellent partners for a good pastor: a tender heart and a thick skin.
- You don’t "just throw away" the generation that put you in business.
- "Christianity" is a verb... so is "Pastor."
- The pulpit is not a pastor's "therapy couch."
- To abandon one's church when she is wounded is to abandon one's Savior when he is weeping.
- There is no option for the privilege of leading the church apart from the probability of being hurt by the church.
