LONG-TERM INVESTING
There are 142 human bodies or heads being held in cold-storage at US cryonics facilities. These are people who have had their bodies frozen in hopes that at some point in the future science will have advanced enough that they can be brought back from the dead. A few of them have left themselves millions of dollars so that when they "wake up" they won't be paupers. Arizona resort operator David Pizer has left himself $10 million in land and stock holdings that he hopes he will be reunited with when he is "re-animated." He figures that if his investments accumulate interest he could wake up in 100 years as the "richest man in the world."

Ah, okay...

like Chesterton said, the problem with 'atheists' (i'm making an assumption here), is not that they believe nothing, but that they will believe anything. and they think our beliefs are far-fetched...

If your god beliefs give you such a leg up in dealing with reality, how do you plan to dispose of your millions after you die?

The thing I don't understand is why these 60-70 year old guys would want to be frozen. I mean, if I was going to subject myself to the mother of all brain freezes, I'd want to come back in my prime, not when my body is starting to fall apart.

Another thing. Only 142 so far? Who wants to be part of the beta test?! ;-)

I can understand the desire to live forever. Christians share a similar hope. We believe in the resurrection of the dead -- new and restored bodies. However, we would contend that the future is secured not through science but through the person and accomplishments of Christ Jesus.

We also believe that our money isn't really our money but that it is a trust that we've been called to manage for God's purposes. So, we'd have a hard time with tying up so much of it so that we could be outrageously well off -- whether now or then.

It's a different way of looking at the world.
