HELPFUL HEALTH TECHNOLOGY
I spent a few hours this afternoon with my long-time friend Tom and he showed me something really cool. Tom has more health issues than I can fathom so he has worn a MedicAlert bracelet for years (the bracelet is a prompt for EMS people to call an 800 number for a list of all his meds and allergies). But he just got a new device from the MedicAlert people called E-HealthKEY. It's a pocket USB thumbdrive which goes on his keyring and contains his personal health history. All an emergency room physician would need to do is plug it into a computer and it brings up the entirety of his complex history. What a time saver -- perhaps even a life saver in some situations.
