Happy Mother's Day!

Cheryl and I were just remembering that for her first Mother's Day we went to a McDonald's in Chicago that was offering a free Mother's Day breakfast. I can remember that we had Kirk in a baby carrier that sat on the plastic seat next to us.

Cheryl with our children, December 2006 -- Betsy, Kent, Cheryl, Kirk We are going to McDonald's this morning -- as we do most every Sunday morning. But if they have a free Mother's Day menu I haven't heard about it. Cheryl will probably have decaf coffee and I'll get my regular breakfast burritos -- or an egg and sausage McMuffin.

This afternoon, after worship, we'll join Jeff and Mary Johnson (and Jeff's mother, Doris, who is here visiting) and head out to Jeff's Pirate Cove in Ipan Talofofo for lunch. That will be fun.

This is actually our first Mother's Day without any of our children around. They did send a special Mother's Day surprise that arrived in the mail Thursday or Friday -- a gift card for dinner. We'll hit Tony Roma's sometime this week or next when it's less crowded.

Then tomorrow, when it's still Mother's Day on the mainland, I'll call my mother in Arizona.

It's all a little different than what we're used to but that's okay.

The Christian History website has an article called Faith of Our Mothers -- cameo pieces on great mothers in the history on the church.
