Obama '08

I've noticed within the last week that quite a few more cars on Guam are now sporting shinny new Obama '08 bumper stickers. Why now -- after the election? I'm guessing but here are some more-or-less likely possibilities.Obama sticker

1. People want to look like they picked the winner. You can imagine whose stickers would be on the cars if McCain had won.

2. The bumper stickers, which were actually shipped Priority Mail from the US mainland last February, were inadvertently placed in a slow boat cargo container by the USPS and didn't arrive until after the election.

3. The presidential election, which is technically moot for Guamanians, did not really impinge upon the local consciousness until after the local senatorial race was over. We're not exactly known for multi-tasking out here.

4. We're hoping that word will get back to the Obama administration as to how many people on Guam are driving around with his stickers and he will feel obligated to toss us a major financial bone. Island cultures emphasize social reciprocity. The stickers are there to remind him of his obligation as an islander.

5. The hardware stores have all run out of duct tape -- and we need something to hold the bumpers to the frames. So we're improvising until a cargo container from Hawaii arrives. Fortunately, someone from the Guam Democratic Party remembered that last February he got a bunch of these sticker things that the Obama campaign shipped from the States. So he dug through the boxes in his carport and found them. They're now available in the hardware department at Kmart.

You decide.
