Gävlebocken

Is it just me or do you think the Gävlebocken is looking a little plumper this year? Perhaps she is with child. Or maybe she's been feasting on straw. Hopefully she doesn't end up having to burn it all off.

The Gävlebocken is a giant Christmas goat (julbocken) constructed each year in the Swedish city of Gävle. More times than not, the goat has succumbed to arsonists before Christmas day.

In Scandinavian lore the julbocken was responsible for bringing Christmas gifts. However, in contemporary myth, the julbocken pulls Santa's cart or is Santa's steed. Old or new, big or small, the goat is a common Christmas symbol, especially in Sweden.
