NO SMALL CHANGE
"When Melvin Doyle told his priest that he'd like to donate his coin collection to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Hope/Plymouth [Minnesota], the Rev. Bob Hazel imagined a few glass cases and cardboard binders." But it turns out that Melvin, who will soon turn 90, has been squirreling his change in his basement -- something he started doing in 1918. The total estimated value of the three pick-up truck loads of coins (moved by 12 men) -- $75,000. As Doyle said, "The mint will be able to shut down for a couple days when we turn those in..."
