OXFAM IS SOUNDING THE ALARM -- 3.6 million people, about a third of whom are children, face starvation in the West African nation of Niger. Locusts and drought are the culprits. 800,000 children under 5 are suffering from hunger, including 150,000 faced with severe malnutrition.

THIS MORNING I ADDED Yahoo'’s recently acquired Konfabulator to my desktop. Konfabulator is a collection of "widgets" -- such as, clocks, calendars, to-do list, system indicators, weather report... (Apparently there are over 600 widgets available). The installation seemed sluggish. Then it took me about 10 minutes of playing with the cute little widgets before I figured out that they didn't really add any value to the system. So I promptly uninstalled it all. Others, however, may find something in there that is helpful.

OVER 400 SCIENTISTS have now signed on to a document called "Scientific Dissent From Darwinism" (.pdf). These researchers, many at prominent universities, believe that Darwinian evolution is a flawed theory. This does not mean that they disapprove of all evolutionary theory -- but the particular form that emphasizes random mutation. "We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life. Careful examination of the evidence for Darwinian theory should be encouraged."
These scientists are not necessarily believers in any particular religion. And I would venture to guess that few of them are proponents of "Scientific Creationism." In all fairness, though, it should be noted that while this is a growing movement in the scientific community it is still a minority movement. But at one point Darwin himself was the sole spokesman for his position. Orthodoxy, even in science, is subject to evolution.
