Saturday Roundup

PETE'S POND
I still think that one of the most enjoyable things on the web is the Pete's Pond webcam sponsored by National Geographic -- . Apparently it's only a temporary website, though. The note in the sidebar says that it has been extended to December 8th. Apparently the more magazine subscriptions it generates the longer they'll keep it up. I really can't afford to subscribe to NG more than once.

GUAM WEBCAM'S
A couple of cams pointing to places we visited while on vacation: Hotel Nikko, where we went swimming and I went down the waterslide over and over and over... And then there is the Micronesian Mall, where 90% of the customers seem to be Japanese tourists. It has an interesting mix of shops. I do believe that this mall is the very place where America intersects with Asia.

The highly respected religion correspondent for The Times has started a blog.

SUPERBALL RELEASE
Do you remember hearing about the release of 250,000 superballs down a San Francisco hill last July? It was all a part of a commercial for a television. It should probably win some kind of art award. (via)

A WORD ABOUT TITHING
Fr Thomas Zell, editor of AGAIN magazine, CEO of Conciliar Press, and pastor of St James Orthodox Mission in Modesto, has a great little survey article which covers the Christian practice of tithing. It's broad, practical, and helpful for Christians of all stripes.

ORDINATION
Andrew Damick, who was a part of the Evangelical-Orthodox discussion list a few years ago (even the moderator for awhile) will be ordained as a deacon in the Orthodox Church this Sunday. Many years to you Andrew! Might God use you in ways you can't yet imagine.

Also, in the ordination category, in a highly unusual move, Sandy Millar, one of the founders of the Alpha Course, is to be consecrated in Kampala as a bishop in the Church of Uganda on November 27th. He will then be authorized to act as a "Bishop in Mission" in the diocese of London, England. Are we confused, yet?
