SALMON-THIRTY-SALMON

FIRST TRIO "MARRIED" IN NETHERLANDS
A civil union between a man and two women. Unlike polygamy the two women are "married" to each other, as well as the man. I think we could all pretty much see this one coming.
PAID CONTENT
The Internet is a bundle of paradoxes. One is that as more and more is available online for free people are actually paying for more and more online content.
JUSTICE O'CONNOR'S NEW JOB
Sandra Day O'Connor, who in July announced her intention to retire as Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, has been named twenty-third Chancellor of the College by the College of William and Mary Board of Visitors. Justice O'Connor will succeed Dr Henry A. Kissinger, former United States Secretary of State, who was appointed in 2000. The appointment is effective immediately. Link
HARRIET MIERS
President Bush's Supreme Court nominee is a member of a conservative evangelical church in the Dallas area.
HARDSHIP
Is it possible that God intentionally leads us through difficult times for our own good? Peter K Nelson takes aim at the pragmatism which dominates so much of American Christianity.
A NEW LINE OF TARTAN STOLES
For clergy who use such -- and who are Scottish enough.
TUITION BARGAINS
USA Today has an overview list of tuition for state colleges and universities. The story is really about tuition hikes, and how they are not as great this year as last year. But they list some schools which are in-state tuition bargains -- such as the University of Florida Gainesville ($3,180/yr). Among the surprises is the University of Hawaii Manoa ($3,772/yr). Even the out-of-state tuition at Manoa isn't bad ($10,176).
Not listed were the Cal State (avg. $2,566/yr) and the University of California ($5,400/yr) schools. In spite of our increases and state budget instability education still seems to be a relatively good value in California.
TOGO SCHOOLGIRLS REQUIRED TO HAVE SHORT HAIR
A government official in Togo decided a couple of weeks ago that long hair was a distraction to public education.
JAPANESE MINI-HOUSES
I know people with walk-in closets which are bigger than these things. We are a little spoiled, aren't we.
