Krispy Kreme closing
After this weekend, the Krispy Kreme doughnut shop in Modesto will be no more. They opened in 2001 with traffic jams and long lines. But that all ended up being a flash in the pan.
It only goes to show you that it is not enough to have "location, location, location" and a great product. You also have to have a reasonably priced product. Krispy Kreme doughnuts are smaller than what you'd get elsewhere and you pay 10-20 cents more per doughnut at Krispy Kreme. Then there is the issue of unreasonable over-head costs -- a massive building and production showcase for... doughnuts. And, of course, it doesn't help the industry that Americans are becoming more conscious about the amount of fat they are consuming.
I'm sorry to see them go but I really only ventured in there once or twice a year so it won't affect my routine -- or weight.

Um yeah, next weekend I'm driving 7 hours for board meetings at Covenant Bible College near Calgary.
I plan to make the trip into Calgary, just to buy Krispy Kreme donuts.
And i will bring some home and freeze them for Christmas morning, and it will be a Merry, Sugar induced Christmas for all.
I love a good donut.
