The last nine holes were killers
It's been two years since I played any golf but my pastor friend Don Holmertz, from Stillman Valley, Illinois, wanted to play yesterday. He is in the area for a meeting we're both attending at Mission Springs. So I drove over to Santa Cruz early and we played on Monday afternoon at De Laveaga. It is a wonderful place to play -- but I lost more little white balls than ever before -- none in water. I think I'll stick to 9-hole muni's -- more my speed.
We did team up with "Bob" -- a seventy-something guy looking for playing partners. Fortunately he knew the course, or I would have lost a lot more balls than I did. At the end he invited us down to his yacht at the harbor for refreshments and to watch the sunset. That made it all worthwhile -- even the last 9 holes. And the moral of the story is -- always carry your digital camera -- wherever you go. I wish I had. Other than the company the golf was so-so but the boat was great.
Tax dollars to pay for television
It sort'a makes sense -- using tax dollars to pay for television conversion boxes mandated by the government. But it is silly that television has become such an essential that we need to make sure everyone can keep up with the latest TV technology.
University of California expenses
The SF Chronicle is really going after the University of California -- charging that staff and faculty are overpaid and receive too many perks.
AOL to offer even more television content
They've got do something to keep people subscribed.
Actually, they will be offering old TV reruns -- nothing that would ever get me to go back (yawn). When we first moved to Turlock AOL was only one of two ISP's with Turlock phone access. I bailed on them as soon as something else came along -- about nine years ago -- and haven't looked back. It was over-priced, the service was wanting, and the content wasn't anything better than what was for free on the Web. Have things changed?
Free laptops!
But they're not as free as it first appears -- probably cheaper to actually buy one.
