Memory improvement breakthrough
Scientists at the University of Oregon in the United States have demonstrated that awareness, or visual working memory, does not depend on extra storage space in the brain but on an ability to ignore what is irrelevant.

Carnegie Arts CenterSad
A pre-dawn fire destroyed Turlock's Carnegie Arts Center this morning. The brick building, which was in the midst of a major renovation and expansion, was one of the truly classic buildings in town. It was donated by industrialist Andrew Carnegie in 1916 as a part of his plan to put libraries in small towns across America. It was used as a branch library until 1968.

Link to the city's website describing the use and renovation of the building.

The Salvation Army Band
Terry Mattingly has a column on the challenges facing the Salvation Army. In spite of it all, those guys do great work and in many ways are a model for the rest of the church.
