Microsoft, along with its hardware partners, unveiled the Ultra-Mobile yesterday. This full-fledged 2 1/2 pound computer system is the size of a paperback book, features a 7-inch touch screen, will cost between $500 and $1,000, has a battery life of up to three hours, a 60-gigabyte hard drive, supports both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, comes with two USB ports, and runs the Tablet PC edition of Windows XP (and eventually the new Windows Vista operating system).
Throw in a keyboard (stylists are for the birds -- inefficient) and as soon as Vista is released I'll go for it. It's the exact kind of portability that I'm looking for. I'll start saving my pennies now.
