"Microsoft better than Google, soon"
Microsoft says that in six months they will be releasing a new search engine which will out-google Google. I'm not sure that will be good enough to draw-in Google loyalists. The only thing which might give Microsoft a chance is if they can convince everyone that they aren't "evil incorporated." It's not just about superior technology. It's about perceived power, exploitation, and fairness. While there are a lot of nasty things about it, the cyberworld does have at least a small sense of morality. This is why Google has done so well. More important than their innovativeness is that they have successfully painted themselves as the anti-villain. Whether they can maintain that image is another issue.

something else that matters is the design: Google keeps theirs simple with the cruft to a minimum.

besides, if this is really true, which i doubt, i'm sure Google has their next quantum leap in the pipeline. and they have so much less overhead than Micro$oft.
