A fire wiped out a structure at Wilkey Sheet Metal early this morning. (The Wilkeys are a part of our congregation and my wife, Cheryl, works for them.) Fortunately, no one was hurt and the fire was contained to a secondary building across the street from their main building at 200 D Street.
The building and parking area, which took up a little over half the block, housed some almond hulling equipment and inventory. Firefighters from Turlock, Turlock Rural, and Modesto Fire departments were able to pretty much contain it to the Wilkey's property. I'm sure, though, that there is at least one guy who wishes he hadn't parked his car in the alley last night. And I suspect that the debris will be smoldering for several days.
