Fireboats tend to the ruins of Sealand...The entire country of Sealand is in ruins after a Friday fire. The micronation (pop. 5), which sets on a former sea fort 6 miles (10 km) off the coast of Suffolk, England in the North Sea, wasn't asserting its independence very well when it had to rely on rescue and fire fighting crews from England.

...The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority in Washington, DC is discussing the possibility of adding Spanish language signage to the Metrorail. I'm sure that having Spanish visibly and officially displayed in the nation's capital would go over really well with the paranoid English-only crowd (which is primarily concerned about the incursion of Spanish). Perhaps one way to calm their fears is to not only add Spanish but two other major world languages as well -- Chinese and French. It isn't uncommon in world class cities to have signage in many languages. Of course, as soon as the French government does something else to upset us, there will be a movement to spraypaint over all French words.

...Crazy mockingbird! Don't you know that nighttime is for sleeping. Although -- with temps shooting toward 109 degrees today the nightshift may not be so crazy.

...The strange saga of controversial UC Santa Cruz Chancellor Denice Denton took an even stranger and more tragic turn yesterday when she jumped from the roof of a 42-story San Francisco apartment building.
