Tsunami warning

Guam Civil Defense sent out a text message to our cell phones this evening. Of course, it would have probably been better if they had sent the message when the tsunami watch -- then warning -- was issued, rather than when it was canceled. But, hey, it's an improvement over the last tsunami warning which we didn't hear about until a day later. And it looks like the CD crew actually got the information up on their website, too.

Fortunately for us, we live in the Village of Mangilao, which is on the east -- or Pacific side of the island. The terrain is higher and the drop-off to the ocean is severe. So, we aren't ever in danger of a tsunami hit-- at least while we're at home or school. But we were on the other side of the island a few times today.

Still, I'm seriously impressed that the Civil Defense people figured out how to send out the text message on the cell phones -- even if it was too late. Next time I bet they'll have the timing down, too.
