~ The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, the primary auto industry lobbying group in the US, has endorsed a House proposal to increase gas mileage standards for new passenger vehicles to at least 32 miles per gallon by 2022.
Excuse my cynicism, but can we call this progress? Our 1999 Toyota Corolla already gets 30 miles to the gallon driving under island conditions (no freeways -- lots of stopping and starting). 32 miles per gallon isn't a very progressive target -- unless the year is 1952. It sounds like business as usual.
~ In the UK McDonald's is switching their delivery trucks over to run on recycled cooking oil -- spreading that french fry smell everywhere they go. My guess is that the scented suggestion will increase fries sales.
