How Great Thou Art for percussion
Yet one more adaptation of this great old Swedish classic. (Check out the version I highlighted a few weeks ago.) This percussion arrangement is interesting but they try to use volume to communicate grandeur. And at times the production seems to overshadow the song itself. The same kind of thing happens when an organist pulls out too many stops and modulates up on the last verse of a hymn. Sometimes it can be too much. Yet, the adaptability of the piece speaks wonders. And even though I'm not particularly fond of this performance I do appreciate that there are musicians trying new things with it. I can imagine a percussion arrangement with less smoke and performance engaging people on more than a rhythmic level.
