ENERGY BREAKTHROUGH
President Bush said Monday that America is on the verge of technological breakthroughs that would "startle" most Americans. I suppose this means we can skip putting expensive and dangerous oil rigs in the middle of an Alaskan wildlife refuge. I suppose this means that we can wrap things up in the Middle East. Or is it NOT THAT startling?
I think that most of us will be startled if a tenth of the energy saving innovations we've been teased with for the past 35 years were actually funded and developed. Why am I feeling jaded on this when I'm usually excited to hear about solar power, biofuels, and electric-gas hybrid cars?

Bush's meeting with the smart people on renewable energy is happening in my back yard today (Golden, Colorado). I have high hopes.
