GETTING READY FOR ARGENTINA
(Monday) Kirk is suppose to leave for Argentina in two weeks to do a semester abroad at Universidad de Belgrano in Buenos Aires. But he is having trouble getting all his ducks lined up for the student visa. The requirements are pretty fluid and new ones keep surfacing. He has to show up in person at the consulate in Los Angeles to actually get the visa -- supposidly this Thursday. (This is the Western states consulate. Even if you live in Alaska you have to travel in person to Los Angeles to get the visa). It all makes me much more appreciative of American-style government bureaucracy -- and it explains why Argentina is such an economic mess.
