RETIREMENT
Okay, I'm only 48. And retirement isn't on my mind too much (there are, however, days...). But I noticed an AP article that is running in a lot of papers this week about the growing number of Americans retiring in Mexico. I found it interesting because the thought has crossed my mind. A person could go live in Mexico inexpensively and simply -- AND could actually make a contribution to the community at the same time. Apparently, it's not only Mexico but there are other places in Central America and Europe which are attracting adventuresome American retirees.
I'm sure that culture shock and language isolation are issues. But I've already come to realize that I don't mind being one of the few English speakers in the store. It can't be that much different in a Mexican Wal-Mart!
