Friday Notes

THE CHURCHWIDE ASSEMBLY of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America has with a 51% vote defeated a move that would change their rules to allow active homosexuals into the ordained ministry of the ELCA.

A MASSIVE WATERFALLL, somehow unnoticed all of these years, has been discovered in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area near Redding, California. If they gave the coordinates we could all fly there on Google Earth and take a look for ourselves.

A CARPET on the floor of the pedestrian bridge connecting the Sacramento International Airport terminal to the parking garage is a woven picture of the Sacramento River. That is, it is now possible to have pictures reproduced onto a carpet media. This is certain to change the vacuuming experience. I wonder if it comes in anything other than a matted finish?

GLOBAL WARMING DATA ERROR
-- They miscalculated. The new corrected information doesn't appear to affect the debate over whether the warming is a natural cyclical or a man-made phenomena. It simply confirms that things are heating up.

THE ELCA isn't just debating homosexuality this week. They have also adopted a new hymnal which provides alternatives to what some people see as offensive Trinitarian language. I want to be gracious and give them the benefit of the doubt but it really looks like they've allowed pc thinking to overshadow their theology. Link

I have been re-reading Annie Dillard's Pilgrim at Tinker Creek and seem to remember her mentioning how a Praying Mantis has been able to kill creatures we never would have thought. I will have to check back on that.

I can picture the manzanita. It is pretty, and I hear that you can make some pretty good tea from it. We weren't allowed to mess with it in the parks where I saw it, however.
