Tuesday Notes PM

NOT QUITE AS BIG as Katrina -- but still dangerous -- Typhoon Nabi is heading toward Tinian and Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands. Link

THE HURRICANE DAMAGE appears to be worse than expected. There are still communities which haven't been able to check-in. The flood waters are getting higher in New Orleans due to a break in a dike. Those who rode the storm out in the city are now being evacuated. Rescue and relief workers from the rest of the country are starting to converge on the Gulf Coast. Link

40-60% OF BLOGGER blogs are "spam" -- Link

IN HONOR OF ITS 10TH BIRTHDAY the webbrowser Opera is giving away free registration codes TODAY ONLY. The browser, which is supported by advertising and the people who normally pay to register, is an alternative to Internet Explorer. If you register the small ads in the bar will disappear.

THE PICTURE is of the electric car that I think would be ideal for getting around town but which my easily-embarrassed children won't let me buy. There is an entrepreneur in Cordoba, Spain, renting them out for use by tourists in the narrow streets of the ancient city. He's added some cool GPS driven features to enhance the tour. Link

YAHOO HAS IMPROVED the search function for its email -- even searches attachments. Link

20% OF AMERICANS believe that the sun revolves around the earth. Link

CHERYL IS OFF to Mt Hermon for a songwriters' conference. Kirk is in RA training at UCSD. Kent leaves Thursday for a leadership training event with his SoCal church. Betsy and I are staying home to take care of the dog, the cat, the frog, and the laundry.

THE NARNIA MOVIE is being hyped as "outreach." At least the hype is milder than the propaganda that came out before the release of The Passion -- "the greatest evangelistic tool in the last 2,000 years!" It's a wonder that the gospel somehow managed to spread as far as it did before the invention of film.

Why is OPERA system something I should be interested in if I have Firefox?

Opera is just another option. Some like it better than Firefox. Personally, I prefer Firefox. But if you ever wanted to try Opera for free -- today is the day.
