Saturday Roundup

NOT ME
No, this is not one of my projects.

NEWSPAPER SHIFTS TO BLOG FORMAT
The Lake Charles American Press (Lake Charles, Louisiana) isn't even trying to put out a print edition during the Hurricane Rita evacuation. They've shifted their entire publication to blogger. However, it doesn't look like the advertising department made the transition.

HYBRID SHINES IN HURRICANE EVACUATION
The Houston Chronicle also has a hurricane blog. One entry is about an employee, Mike Matthews. While many people were running out of gas or sitting in long gas lines during the evacuation, Mike drove 30 hours to his destination -- and still had a quarter of a tank left in his Prius -- an electric/gas hybrid.

GOTCHA!
The satirical website Landover Baptist Church has fooled MetaFilter into using one of their stories to demonstrate how "Christian gaming enthusiasts" have flocked to the World of Warcraft game to proselytize. Don't feel bad. Sometimes in the world of religion it really is hard to separate the fiction from the truth.

CAL STATE DOCTORATES
Governor Schwarzenegger signed SB 724 on Thursday, authorizing the 23 schools in the California State University system to offer doctor of education degrees. In the past such degrees had to be administered in partnership with other non-CSU universities.
