Sunday Roundup

BACK TO SCHOOL
Kirk has been down in San Diego for a few weeks because of his on campus job. Cheryl and I took Kent back down to Irvine yesterday, turned around and drove back to Turlock. However, we did have time for lunch down there and Kent took us to Lee's Sandwiches across the street from campus. What a truly unique place. You just don't find that many Asian sandwich shops. Great food. Great prices. This place is definitely going on my repeat business list. (Hey, Rick, they are opening one in Houston in December.)

US PLANS VENEZUELAN INVASION!
At least that's what Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says (Remember him? He's the one that Pat Robertson says we should assassinate. Ahhhh... Larry and Moe.). And he has proof!

Yeah, right. If per chance we formulated such plans (I suspect that the defense department has formulated contingency plans for invading every country in the world -- including Texas) but it ain't likely to happen. We're stretched kind of thin right now with quagmires in Afghanistan and Iraq -- and that little problem we have down on the Gulf Coast (not to mention the saber rattling we're doing for the benefit of North Korea, Iran, and Syria).

"Dear President Chavez, once we get done with our current projects (perhaps in 2032 or so) we'll give your request for an invasion serious consideration. I apologize that we can't act sooner but our resources are pretty tied up right now. We'll put you in line right after Cuba. In the meantime perhaps you'll mosey down to the video store and rent The Mouse that Roared. It's pretty funny. I think you'll enjoy it." - GWB

TAKING OVER SOUTH CAROLINA
Christians moving to South Carolina have plans to secede. But why South Carolina? It seems that North Dakota might be an easier target. Or Wyoming. A lot fewer people out there on them prairies.

I have a review copy of the Spiritual Formation Bible and found it to be a major disappointment. Given all the contributors, this was a missed opportunity.

I wish the Upper Room still were publishing its own Spiritual Formation Bible. I gave mine away years ago to a missionary and was ready to replace it only to find it no longer is in print. I am going to have to do the ebay thing , I guess.

I may blog on the Renovare Bible later.

Re Lee's sandwiches... I'll watch for it - sounds good. And some parts of Houston are about as far from Kingwood as Turlock to Irvine, so the distance should be about right. (I'm guessing it'll be near the UH or Rice campuses.)
