Thursday Notes -- PM

GOVERNMENT PROVIDES PROSTITUTES
The Danish government is taking heat because they are paying for disabled citizens to have sex with "sex workers" once a month. Underlying assumptions: an active sex life is absolutely essential for wholeness and health, people are entitled, the government is suppose to provide what the individual can't get on his own, sex and marriage are unrelated, sex is just a biological urge to be processed, prostitution is a legitimate occupation. I can see why some Danes might be a tad bit upset.

FRUSTRATED FIREFIGHTERS
Firefighters from around the country responded to the mutual aid request on the Gulf Coast. They rushed to the scene but after arriving they've spent most of their time filling out FEMA paperwork, attending a class in diversity and the prevention of sexual harassment, and sitting around the Hilton in Atlanta -- waiting for an assignment. They have been eager to work but either there is no work to do or things are still so disorganized that no one has permission to deploy them. (How did FEMA get organized enough to provide "diversity training" at such short notice?) Link
