Peter Drucker, the father of modern management practice, died this morning. The thing which strikes me about the obituary in the LA Times is that they miss the fact that a good deal of his energy was generously poured into helping not-for-profit organizations -- especially in his later years.
He was a a devout Roman Catholic and many of his ideas about community in the workplace and worker dignity can be traced to his faith. Dr Drucker was born in 1909 in Vienna, moving to London in 1933 to escape the Nazis, and then to the US in 1937.
