Somewhere between the vending machine and the manned convenience store is an automated convenience store system which is making a debut in Europe. Shop24 units can stock up to 200 items -- milk, soda, batteries, iPod download cards, beauty aids...

Frankly, though, when I go to the convenience store (Circle K) most every morning it's because I enjoy seeing the people -- checking in with Fred and his crew. You can't do that with an overgrown vending machine. (via)
