One of the latest Google betas is a system to provide Gmail to every user at your domain. Since "Gmail for your domain is hosted by Google... there's no hardware or software for you to install or maintain."
San José City College (SJCC), where I had my first post-secondary education experience, is now hosting student accounts utilizing this new Gmail system.
If this ends up being reliable and simple enough to set-up, it opens up all kinds of possibilities for branded email accounts.
