NEW MONEY New ten dollar bill
The new, more colorful (and secure) ten dollar bill was introduced into circulation this morning.

An interesting angle on this story is the use of reproducible material that the government is issuing to familiarize people with the bills. In the past (25 years ago) they were so paranoid of counterfeiting that the Secret Service would confiscate anything with the image of a dollar bill on it -- even beach towels and throw rugs -- things which no one could ever pass off as currency. Now, because of the more sophisticated imaging on the real bills, the mint doesn't even have a problem with putting up .jpg and .pdf images of the money on their website. It is definitely a different era.
