Scam alert
I've seen it many times before. A company sends you a small check. When you endorse it you are signing a small print contract to switch your phone service. Or in the case of the check we received at church yesterday, by endorsing it you are signing-up for a preferred business listing ($49.95/month) in a useless national phone directory. The hope is that an office worker in efficiency mode will simply endorse the check -- assuming it to be some kind of refund from an existing vendor. The dubious company this time around is USdirectory.com.

(Yes, it is "no-risk" because you can cancel by calling an 800 number -- and you get to keep the $3.25 check. But that assumes that someone in accounts payable will notice that the monthly billing isn't for the local Yellow Pages -- at least until it is too late.)
