DNA testing gone mad
Some students are adding the results of a new test to their college applications -- DNA testing. One student marked the "Asian" box after an ethnic ancestry test indicated that she was 2% East Asian and 98% European.
There are other applications for these new "recreational genomics" tests, which people are using in an attempt to validate their ethnic identity.
Frankly, it would be fun to do -- just to have more information about the tribal origins of my ancestors. But to suggest that such information can somehow establish entitlement to something is warped -- and could distract people from emphasizing the things which are important.
