Earthquake activity is up...
At least in Guam -- which sets close to where the Philippine plate and the Pacific plate meet. They typically feel about 12 earthquakes each year (usually small) on the island. However, this year they have already had 11. There are rarely injuries or deaths, even with a major quake on Guam. Quakes and typhoons are so common that the building codes mandate that most buildings be constructed of rebar reinforced concrete. That is, they're bunkers which might be used as fallout shelters anywhere else (Okay, I'm exaggerating -- a little).
