NCC defines "emergent church" movement
The National Council of Church's 2006 Yearbook of American and Canadian Churches cites two 21st century trends: "blogging" and "the Emergent Church". They also list Scot McKnight's Jesus Creed blog as a medium of communication used by the emerging "movement."
I'm not sure that I'd call Scot "emerging" (he dresses too neatly and lacks the facial hair) but a lot of "emerging church" ideas are discussed on his blog -- and it is one of the more engaging places on the Web. In some ways Scot is a bridge figure connecting the emerging church folks with the rest of the evangelical world. When Stan Grenz died the role of the middle-aged theology professor patron seemed to fall to Scot, and he has graciously taken up their cause -- although he doesn't do so uncritically.
