• The National Science Foundation is funding a major study of the impact of the Brown Tree Snake on the ecology of Guam. The snake, native to the South Pacific, was accidentally introduced to Guam shortly after World War II and has been blamed for wreaking ecological havoc on the island -- wiping out most of the bird population (except for the chickens -- which continue to thrive everywhere -- including the rooster who crows outside my window most mornings). ~ Link
