MEXICAN COKE
The importation of Mexican Coca-Cola, made with cane sugar rather than corn syrup, is causing a minor headache for US Coke distributors.
The US formula for Coke was adjusted in the 1980's as a cost-cutting measure. And the Coca-Cola company's official line is that most consumers can't tell the difference between Coke sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup and that sweetened by cane sugar.
However, if you ask many of the kids in Turlock -- even non-Hispanics -- they seem to know the difference. And they know which taco trucks and which Mexican grocery stores in town stock Mexican Coke.
At least one US manufacturer is using the Mexican recipe for limited distribution.

Not far from Waco, where the Dr. Pepper beverage was born at a soda counter, is the town of Dublin TX, the oldest Dr. Pepper bottling company and the only one that refused to change to corn syrup in the 70s when the same switch happened to their formula. Amd the make a VERY big deal of it.
