On the screen

...Amazing Grace, the movie telling the story of William Wilberforce, who led the abolitionist movement of the 19th century, was released yesterday. Charlotte Allen protests in the Wall Street Journal that the movie turns Wilberforce into more of a political crusader than an evangelical strategist. The problem of conveying history in popular film is that they have to emphasize the things which they think people will identify with. So now, unfortunately, people will think they know the story of Wilberforce. I'd still like to see it.

...Our afternoon plans at the Alpha retreat were thwarted by rain so some of us watched the new DVD release Flushed Away. I laughed the whole time.

...Shrek the Third will be released in theaters on May 18th.
