~ Interesting -- the five churches experiment. Drew Marshall, Canadian Christian talk show host, is paying two unchurched people to visit churches and blog about their experiences. There are things that we take for granted that they "don't get." There are small things that we do when we're not consciously trying to impress that they find impressive.
~ Texas has become a physician magnet because of liability caps.
~ "Wi-tricity" -- MIT researchers have figured out a way to transmit electricity over the air -- wireless. We're all thinking, wow, I'll never have to remember to recharge my cell phone again. But consider what a developed form of this technology might mean for places like Africa or remote islands where there isn't the wired infrastructure that we're used to. It could open up all kinds of doors for people to provide for their families or get an education or...
~ Daisy Ho is leaving Guam tomorrow to take an assignment at a United Methodist Church in SoCal. Cheryl and I ended up with some of the food from her freezer -- including the breaded okra -- which Cheryl cooked up this afternoon because we didn't want it in our freezer. It's good to try that stuff once every 35 years or so, just to see if my taste buds have changed. They haven't. I think we're good now until 2042 or eternity.
~ Daisy's replacement at Guam United Methodist Church will be Fred Agtarap, who like Daisy is a Fuller grad. This means that we can keep the Fuller alumni association going. Eric Sorenson, another Covenant missionary joining the PIBC staff this summer is also a Fuller grad. So there are at least three of us. We're expecting Rich Mouw (pictured) to eventually make a personal visit to update us on all the happenings in Pasadena.
~ Scot McKnight is coming to Guam! -- at least on the radio. He will be on Grace Matters next weekend. Grace Matters happens to be the radio show that our Guam church sponsors. 6:30 a.m. & 7:30 p.m., Sunday, June 17th on KTWG (AM 800) -- or listen online.
~ The new London 2012 Olympics logo is pretty sad. There is even a petition campaign to have it redesigned. I think the whole thing is simply a ploy to arouse interest -- all press is good press. I can't imagine any other explanation.
~ I finally painted our front door today. I've been working on it off and on for several weeks -- sanding and treating the rust. It's hard to know what to do about doors on Guam. The metals ones are heavy enough to withstand typhoons but they rust. Wooden doors warp in the humidity. We need something made from heavy duty plastic -- maybe made from recycled soda bottles.
