~ Manuel Noriega, the deposed dictator of Panama, will be released from prison in Florida soon. There is controversy over who gets him next.

~ Tammy Faye (Bakker) Messner, who became famous as the the make-up caked former wife of PTL's Jim Bakker, has died from cancer. When Cheryl and I were eating supper in a Vietnamese restaurant tonight they had the television going and Larry King was running old footage of interviews he did with her. I'm surprised that she had become such a media icon outside of the PTL subculture. So strange.

~ The US is trying to get businesses in the Philippines to invest on the islands. Guam is already about 40% Filipino and we even have our own SM store. But there is room for more.

~ Africa needs the Internet or it will be left in the dust. But everything about Africa seems to create barriers to electronic connectivity -- isolation, lack of infrastructure, government instability... No quick easy fixes.
