Bailout math

$700,000,000,000 (projected bailout) ÷ 305,000,000 (US population according to today's census calculator) = $2,295 in liability per American

Of course, there are a lot fewer taxpayers than that but this at least gives us a sense for the numbers. And it's not quite as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Whether the bailout is necessary is another matter but those making the decisions seem convinced and hellbent on it. IF they set it up right I could see the potential for actually turning a profit for the national treasury. But it seems that there have got to be some less-radical ways (re-regulation, incentives, government backed insurance) to stabilize the market.
