The original manuscript was lost but I'm fairly certain that Beethoven had the ukulele in mind when he started writing for Elise. It wasn't until some show-off kid with piano fingers got hold of it that it was rearranged for the piano -- losing most of its original simplicity. Fortunately it has been restored to what I'm sure Beethoven had (or should have had) in mind. ~ free uke tabs
